I’ve always known about my Italian heritage on my Mothers side of our family, and acknowledge that side of our family with pride - my Grandad was a proud Italian man who also loved playing cricket! Back in 2006 I decided to get in touch with cricket Italia and the federation to express my interest in representing the national team.Since making that initial contact and starting the process of acquiring a passport in order to play for cricket Italia, I have never looked back. It has opened doors for me not only personally but it is a process that has also helped us to strengthen and bring experience to the national team, who I am now extremely proud to play and coach for. My journey with Cricket Italia has been a fantastic experience where I have been able to use my experience as a County professional in the UK to help bring cricket to a bigger stage in Italy and hopefully inspire the next generation of Italian cricketers. Being able to work and play with other professionals who hold Italian passports and to bring our experience to new and existing players in Italy, to share knowledge, skills and build on our team whilst playing cricket around the globe, is a real privilege.
We play to a high standard that is demanded of us in these tournaments and our professionalism is of great importance as we proudly represent our national team.
I would urge anyone who is eligible for citizenship to make contact with the federation if they are keen to see where their own journey could lead them.
We all bleed blue!

From an early age we always knew that we were Italian with my mother being born in Milan and her parents being from Italy. My grandfather always used to tell me that he was going to take me to italy to play for Inter Milan football club. I laughed and said ‘I want to play cricket for my country’, little did I know it would be for Italy.
The drive to play sport in Italy was always there from my grandparents. My parents had registered myself and my brother and sister in Italy when we were born so acquiring a passport was no issue. I did not know that there was cricket in Italy, let alone a National Team. I found out through my mothers cousin. He had always followed mine and my brothers cricketing careers in South Africa and mentioned coming to play in Italy and try to qualify to play for the national side.
Through a number of phone calls and making plans with family I decided to go and pursue a dream of playing international cricket. To play for a country that has always been close to my heart and part of my family for so many years, has been a blessing. It has opened so many pathways for myself and family, that I am extremely grateful for. The national side has gone through a lot of positive change over the years since making my debut in 2016. We are a side filled with vast cultures, religious beliefs, experience and up and coming young talents from all over the world and within Italy. The amazing thing is that when we are all together as one team, one family we all ‘bleed blue’. There is great opportunity as we get to work with amazing people ; teammates, coaches - with great experience, get to see the world playing a sport we love and represent our country in the process. We play in big tournaments and associate cricket is extremely competitive. We as a team and with coaching staff are looking to qualify for upcoming major tournaments and help this nation grow in the cricketing world.
My grandparents would be proud of me as I represent their country and to now call it my own , I know my love for the game and to represent the Azzurri is ever growing. I would urge any players who have citizenship to get in contact with the federation and help grow the game within italy and around the world.
Improve your skills, gain knowledge on and off the field, create a brotherhood and family.
