UK Ambassador Jill Morris's address to the Club...
at the Foreign Press Club, Rome
HMA spoke about a connected Commonwealth.
Ambasciatore Britannica Jill Morris
Incontro con l'ambasciatore britannica Jill Morris sull'attualità britannica, che non è solo Brexit L'incontro, organizzato dal Commonwealth Club of Rome, si svolgerà in inglese.
Despite major traffic restrictions a good crowd showed up at the foreign press club including her fellow Commonwealth Ambassador Anthony Simpson and the Senator representing Italians in Africa, Asia, Oceania and Antartica, Francesco Giacobbe.
During her address HMA referred to the agreements reached at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting and parrallel forums held last year in London and then outlined a number of specific initiatives to achieve the wanted outcomes.
As would be expected considering the illustrious venue, question time followed with excellent contributions from members and friends on how our Club can continue to contribute to a connected Commonwealth.
Our thanks go to HMA not only for the encouragement included for the club in this address but for the great attention dedicated to us over the last 3 years. We also thank Associazione della Stampa Estera in Italia for the venue, Associazione Culture del Mondo and Jacelyn Parry for the photos... 🙂 and our gatekeepers Aurelio & Camilla.

John Stewart, CW board member, commended the Ambassador for her brilliant description of what the Commonwealth is about and what it is achieving. He also thanked her for reminding us, on the symbolic day of 4 July, how it stands up for the principles of a Rules Based International System and Free Trade, both of which are currently under threat. As Head of Business Development for Unity Financial Partners he mentioned the company’s support for Link, a UKAid Charity headquartered in Edinburgh, which is helping to educate thousands of girls in Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda and Malawi in line with London CHOGM’s commitment in 2018, highlighted by Ambassador Morris in her speech, to provide 12 years of quality education for 1 million children and in particular disadvantaged girls. Unity is looking to hold an event in the autumn, together with the Commonwealth Club, addressing the importance of sustainable investments (including green pensions) and at the same time to raise funds for Link.
